Located on the east coast of Queensland, Cairns is a tropical paradise and popular tourist destination in the land down under. While there’s plenty of exciting experiences to be had in Cairns, an off-beat one that’s sure to excite thrill-seekers is skydiving!
With tandem skydiving, you will not freefall out of an aeroplane solo -- you’ll instead be accompanied by a licensed skydive instructor. Before your freefall, you’ll be attached via a harness to an instructor, who will control every part of your skydive, from the jump and landing to the deployment of the parachute and appropriate body positions to adapt.
Tandem skydiving is the best option for first-time skydivers or those looking to learn more about the basics of this adventure sport.
Step out of your comfort zone and gear up for some adrenaline-pumping fun by Skydiving in Cairns. Here, you don’t have to be an experienced skydiver or a professional to try the adventure sport! All you have to do is follow a quick safety briefing session after which, you will be strapped into a harness and flown up 15,000 feet high, from where you will skydive out of an aeroplane. The freefall lasts for 60 seconds, following which the parachute gets deployed. During this period, you’ll have 5-7 minutes to immerse in the jaw-dropping views while you glide back down to Earth. Beginners and first-timers should go for a tandem skydiving experience whereas experienced divers can go solo.

Weather is one of the most crucial factors for skydiving. Depending on the weather and availability of slots, your reserved skydive experience may move up or down. Due to this reason, it is recommended to book slots early in the morning, around 7 AM to plan your day accordingly. You’ll be required to sign a few forms and complete the training session if the weather looks good.
Before you arrive for your skydiving experience ensure that you eat light and pack some snacks which will help you keep calm and grounded. Wear loose-fitted clothes so that you’ll feel comfortable the whole day. Yoga pants, leggings, a T-shirt and a long-sleeved shirt or tops would be ideal for this experience. Most importantly, get enough rest before skydiving. It is normal to have a sleepless night before an exciting activity like this, but a good night’s sleep will help you enjoy this activity better.
Your Cairns skydive experience begins as soon as you reach the facility. Since the experience is strictly dated and timed all guests are advised to check in about 15-20 minutes before their assigned slot, to complete the required documents on time. Following this, you’ll undertake a routine health check-up where the crew will access your height, weight, age, and other relevant factors.
Next, you’ll meet your instructor and the rest of the skydive team. They’ll guide you through a training session where you’ll be given instructions and tips on your skydive; you’ll learn about what to do and what not to do, basic skydive body movements to remember before and during the jump, etc. The session should last about 20-30 minutes.
Right after the quick briefing season, you will be fitted up in your gear and prepped up for your skydiving adventure. The instructors will then lead you to the specially outfitted plane. On the way to 15,000 feet, you will be fastened to your tandem jumpmaster. Before making the jump, the jumpmaster will re-check all technical functionalities, making sure everything is accurate in order to ensure you have a safe jump.
The best part is now here: the freefall. You and your skydive instructor will freefall for about 60 seconds until they deploy the parachute. At this point, you’ll slow down and can actually soak in the surreal views below you; from this skydiving facility, you can see the beautiful ocean, the lush rainforest, and of course, the highlight -- the reef! The entire skydiving experience lasts about 5-7 minutes.
During the landing stage, float back to the base while enjoying a 360-degree view of the captivating scenery around you. Upon reaching the base, you can collect any extra photos or videos you may have paid for.
